On June 22nd, the Surrey Cricket Foundation hosted a successful ‘Super Saturday’ event, celebrating recreational women and girls cricket, at the iconic Kia Oval.

The day kicked off with an ECB Support Coach Course held on the hallowed turf of the Oval. Over 30 women and teenagers participated in this entry-level coaching programme, taking a crucial first step on their cricket coaching journey. With guidance and support from ECB Coach Educators, participants undertook a range of practical activities as well as covering player welfare and safeguarding.

The afternoon saw a vibrant women’s softball cricket tournament taking place, also held on the prestigious Oval outfield. Ten teams from across Surrey and south London battled it out for glory at this inaugural event. Effingham CC were victorious on the day, beating Sanderstead CC by just one run in a closely fought final match.

“The atmosphere at The Kia Oval was fantastic,” said Sarah Lynch, manager of the Surrey Cricket Foundation’s Women and Girls team. “It was wonderful to see so many women and girls engaged in the sport, whether learning coaching skills or competing in the tournament.”

Organised by the dedicated Women and Girls team at the Surrey Cricket Foundation, the event is a testament to the Foundation’s commitment to fostering the growth of women’s and girls’ cricket at the recreational level.
